After a long day of hiking or mountain biking (aka, my attempt to keep up with my kids), my muscles are very exceptionally sore. It's absolutely worth every aching muscle, but to get back to a state where I can walk up the stairs without flinching, I love a long soak in the tub with epsom salts.

When I'm feeling extra fancy, it's fun to use something besides the plain epsom salts that we keep around the house. Enter today's hibiscus geranium bath soak... It has the benefits of soaking with epsom salt, but incorporates some yummy smelling essential oils and flower petals. What are the benefits of soaking in epsom salts? Besides being relaxing, epsom salts are loaded with magnesium which helps you sleep better, reduces inflammation and can help reduce headaches.

This project takes just a couple minutes to assemble and makes a fantastic gift for anyone who needs a little self care. Generally I purchase baking soda and hibiscus petals from the bulk section of my grocery store or health food store.

Method

Combine the epsom salt, baking soda and hibiscus petals in a bowl and mix until combined. I like to use a whisk because it breaks up any lumps that might be in the epsom salt or baking soda really well.

Once you have a fairly distributed mixture, add 20 drops of geranium essential oil to the mixture. When you add the oil, make drops in as many separate areas as possible to best distribute the oil. Mix thoroughly and decant into a cute storage container.

To use, add 1 cup of the mixture to a bath and relax!
