This flower is super fun to make and is a great focal point since it's a bit on the larger side. The construction uses individual petals that surround a pom pom flower as the center. We've shown this in dark colors, but it would be stunning in a light cream with a black center.
To get started, you'll need the following supplies:
- Felt pieces (two main color, one center color, one green for leaves)
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks (I prefer low temp)
Create the center pom pom flower by cutting a 1 1/2 inch strip across the center felt color. Fold this in half and hot glue the edges together, being careful to keep glue only on the raw edges. When the glue has cooled, make cuts in the folded edge as shown below.
To create the small petals, cut a two inch strip from each piece of felt across the short side of the piece. Cut into eight equal sections, and then cut your small petals from these pieces as shown above. Cut a slit in the bottom center, approximately 1/3 of the way up the petal.
To create the large petals, cut the remaining felt into two strips and divide into three pieces for each strip. Cut petals from these pieces, and cut a slit in the bottom center as you did for the small petals.
Cut the base and leaf piece from a 4 inch square of the green felt.
To assemble the center, take the long piece and run glue along the raw edge. Begin rolling the raw edge while adding glue in sections until the whole piece is rolled.
To assemble the petals, add glue near the bottom on one side of the slit. Cross the other side of the base and press onto the glue, shaping the petals to add dimension.
When the petals have dried, begin adding them to the center by placing glue over the crossed part of the petal and pressing around the bottom of the center. I found it worked really well to put glue on the petal and set the center on top to secure it. When beginning to add petals, divide the center into thirds and place your petals in each section. The following petals can go in the empty space to fill in the flower.
When you've added all of your petals, turn the flower upside down. Add glue to the center of the base and a line halfway up each leaf. Center over the base of the flower and press to secure.
